Houston, January 13 (Xinhua News Agency) - The 64th Houston Yacht, Sports, and Tourism Exhibition closed on the 13th in Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States, with over 100 manufacturers showcasing over 1000 yachts of various types.
The number of visitors to this year's yacht exhibition has decreased compared to last year. Last year's yacht exhibition saw an unprecedented increase in visitor numbers and sales, mainly due to the extensive damage to yachts in the Houston area caused by Hurricane Harvey in the summer of 2017, and people were eager to purchase new products.
Jonathan Whitmayer, a member of the board of directors of the Greater Houston Yacht Trade Association, told reporters that the most expensive yacht exhibited this year is priced at $1.6 million. Visitors can board the ship for free and experience the charm of luxury yachts up close.
Whitmer said that after the United States announced tariffs on imported steel and aluminum last year, the manufacturing costs of yachts have increased. Almost all exhibitors said that the retail price of yachts would generally rise by 5% to 10% after the exhibition. According to him, the price increase mainly depends on raw materials, with yachts that use more aluminum products experiencing a price increase of up to 14%.
To attract buyers, many merchants have launched "pre tax prices" at the exhibition, hoping to sell more existing inventory products at the pre tax prices of raw materials. Alan May, a resident of a small town near Houston, came to buy his favorite yacht. He said that if the yacht price is determined to rise after the exhibition, he will take action at the exhibition.
